Sarjeant Gallery Metal Inserts
One of the most unique aspects of the Te Whare o Rehua Sarjeant Gallery redevelopment project was the overarching concept of kānapanapa, the phenomenon of light from the river environment. The exterior façade design reflects this with its etched black granite cladding and metal tioata inserts designed to glint in the light like ripples in the water. Manufactured by Tilley Group, these inserts are made from folded & welded 3.0mm Stainless Steel 316. Each piece required extra care and attention to detail in their manufacture to ensure the Stainless Steel’s 2B, electropolished finish remained free of any defects that would lessen their important shimmering effect.
